There is good news for all of us concerned by speculation in the Press about the future of our Hospital. Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group have now confirmed that Bedford Hospital will continue in its full role as our local general hospital, offering a wide range of services including Accident and Emergency, Paediatrics and Maternity. As before, patients needing specialist care will be transferred to relevant centres of excellence: for example, serious heart and chest cases will go to Addenbrooke's or Papworth. Cardiac emergencies will be taken straight to Addenbrooke's.
“Bedfordshire on Sunday” on 19th October 2014 reported the visit of Dr Dan Poulter, parliamentary under secretary of state for Health, to Bedford Hospital's Children's Ward, which is now running 24 hours a day again. Dr Poulter expressed his full confidence that Bedford Hospital has a very strong future and will continue to deliver high-quality services locally.
